Our Commitment to Accessibility

Clonony Castle is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance Standards

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and user-friendly for everyone. The four main principles of accessibility are:

• Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements can be accessed using keyboard-only navigation
• Semantic HTML: Proper use of HTML5 semantic elements for better structure and screen reader compatibility
• Alternative Text: Images include descriptive alternative text for screen readers
• Color Contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast requirements
• Responsive Design: The website works across different devices and screen sizes, including zoom up to 200%
• ARIA Labels: Appropriate ARIA labels and landmarks for assistive technologies
• Clear Forms: Form labels, error messages, and required field indicators are clearly marked
• Language Support: Content available in English and Irish (Gaeilge) with proper language tags

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible:

• Some historical photographs may lack detailed descriptions due to limited archival information
• Embedded YouTube videos may not include captions (we are working with content creators to address this)
• Interactive maps may present challenges for some assistive technologies; text alternatives are provided where possible
